Mandriva Linux is a Linux distribution distributed by Mandriva. It uses the RPM Package Manager. The product lifetime of Mandriva Linux releases is 18 months for base updates and 12 months for desktop update. Mandriva stands on No.5 in the list of Linux Distributions. It comes in two flavors : One with KDE and other with Gnome. The first release was based on Red Hat Linux 5.1 with KDE desktop environmen.

Mandriva Linux 2010 is shipped with 4 distinctive new themes (or flavours): Free, One, Powerpack and Flash. Each theme will be installed based on the Mandriva edition you are installing, but if you want you can easily use the other themes by installing the corresponding mandriva-theme-<flavour_name> packages. Also a new screensaver offers a slideshow of various beautiful landscapes from around the world. This version also allows you to switch to Tomoyo as security framework, provide GUI for common setup, integrated also in msec tool. 2010 comes also with Guest account enabled by default. You can use it to allow somebody to safely use your system.

Mandriva Linux 2010 includes KDE 4.3.2 as its default KDE desktop. The old .kde directory in the user’s /home will be backed up itself. Mandriva is no less prompt in bringing you the latest and greatest releases from the other major free software desktop environment, GNOME. It comes equipped with the latest GNOME 2.28.
