WARNING: This procedure will remove Windows Media Player 9 and revert your player to Version 8

Its a common misunderstanding among people thinking that Windows Media
Player 9 can't be uninstalled. By using the following command line
parameters you can revert (Rollback) to your previous version.
Previously we know that using System Restore back to the point, where
we had WMP8 installed, will remove WMP9. However here is another way to
get rid of it:

Step 1: Open your 'Start Menu' by clicking on the Start button.

Step 2: Click on the 'Run' Command shortcut on the Start Menu

Step 3: Depending on your OS type in:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINNT\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

OR

For Windows XP: -

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

Step 4: You will now be prompted telling you that this will rollback
your Windows Media Player 9 Installation to your previous version.

Click 'Ok' and reboot your PC.

*If you have any problems reinstalling version 8 try running this WMP8
Setup Installer or with your Windows XP Setup CD Reboot your PC from
your Operating System CD and then choose to repair Windows XP in the
Setup options. WMP 9 will be gone and you will have the media player 8
when it was released.

All your current System Settings will still be in tact!
