WD My Passport Wireless 1TB does not comes with any password. The default wifi configuration on the same is open. That means anyone can connect to the drive. Through the settings you can add a password on that. this thing is possible by two ways. First by visitng the web access panel of WD My Passport Wireless 1TB by typing 192.168.60.1 or trough mypassport.local and second with the help of WD MyCloud app. So here I will show you today the way to simply change the default IP address. This will add a bit extra security to the hard drive if you are having some important documents on the same. You can add a static IP or simply leave the drive on DHCP. When DHCP is enabled the drive will get IP from the router of your wifi network. But if you are not willing to hook this on the home/office network then you can add a specific IP of your choice and keep the drive hidden from others. We will be using the web access panel of WD My Passport Wireless 1TB to change the IP.
You can do this through your Smartphone or tablet. You have to launch a browser and in that you have to type mypassport.local or 192.168.60.1. This will load the default web access panel of WD My Passport Wireless 1TB .
From the top menu tap on Wifi. You can access all common wifi settings through this pane. In that you can see a section as My Passport Wireless. There is a settings icon on the top right side. Tap on that.
From Access Point settings tap on Advance Options to open up more manual settings for Wireless connection.
Scroll down and you can see IP Address below Mac Address. This is the place from where you can manually add a IP. You can leave DHCP on if you are going to use this as a shared storage on a home or office network. Or else you can turn it off and add a IP of your choice.
