Recover Windows XP using Recovery Console

Many a times it happens that your Windows doesn't work properly or it's
not working completely, you would be thinking to run some recovery
software for recovering your data, but by using Windows Recovery
Console you can recovery your System as it was earlier.

For that you need to follow some few steps which are as follows:

• How to start the Windows Recovery Console from your Windows XP installation disc.
• How to use the Command Console
• Limitations and restrictions of Windows Recovery Console.
• Commands available in the Windows Recovery Console.

If you have already installed the Recovery Console then you can directly follow this steps:-

1. At the time of Startup, select Recovery Console.
2. If you are having dual-boot system, then select the installation which you want to have access from the Recovery Console.
3. After sometime it will prompted you to type Administrator password, over here type your password and press enter
4. Now you will get a command prompt,over here type Recovery Console commands.
5. If you get stop anywhere you can type Help or Help commandname for help on a specific command.
6. IF you want to exit from Windows recovery Console you can come out it by typing Exit at the command prompt.

Starting the Windows Recovery Console from the Windows XP CD-ROM :
If you have not installed the Windows Recovery Console, you can start
the computer and use the Recovery Console directly from your original
Windows XP installation disc or else follow the below steps:-

1. Insert Windows XP CD into your CD drive and restart your computer.
2. When Windows Setup gets being over here select repair or recover option by pressing R.
3. If you have a dual-boot system, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
4. It will again ask you for administrator password, enter your password and press enter.
5. Now you will get a command prompt,over here type Recovery Console commands.
6. If you get stop anywhere you can type Help or Help commandname for help on a specific command.
7. IF you want to exit from Windows recovery Console you can come out it by typing Exit at the command prompt.

Adding the Windows Recovery Console as a startup option :
If your computer starts Windows, you can add the Windows XP Recovery
Console as a startup option from the Windows. To install the Windows
Recovery Console as a startup option, follow these steps:

1. When your Windows is running, insert the Windows CD into your CD drive.
2. Click on Start and click on Run.
3. Now Command prompt will get open and type your CD Drive letter and then press ENTER on your keyboard.For example E:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons .Please make sure there should be space before /cmdcons.
4. Click on OK and follow the instructions Setup.
5. Finally restart your computer and select the Recovery Console option from the list of available operating systems.

limitations, your Recovery Console too has some Restrictions and
