SI Corporation and Accton Technology Corporation today announced the availability of a new, low-cost hardware and software platform that delivers IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) and next-generation, rich media applications over broadband access networks.
Based on LSI(TM) Advanced PayloadPlus multicore communications processors (APP) and broadband access software, Accton’s production-ready remote DSLAM solution enables OEMs to build products that service providers need to rapidly deploy triple-play services including voice, data and IPTV, along with online gaming and business applications.
"Only 3% of the world’s households will have IPTV in 2013," said Elroy Jopling, research director, Gartner, Inc. [1] "Worldwide subscriptions to Internet Protocol television services will triple from 19 million in 2008 to more than 60 million in 2013, a compound annual growth rate of 25%."
LSI and Accton, a leading provider of advanced networking technology based in Taiwan, have a long-standing relationship and previously collaborated on the development of highly integrated networking solutions. The current collaborative effort provides VDSL2 (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line 2) and PON (Passive Optical Network) connectivity in remote DSLAM applications.
"LSI is a recognized leader in the development of high-performance, multicore communications processors for networking infrastructure applications," said Samuel Chang, executive vice president, Accton. "The combination of Accton systems integration expertise and LSI multicore technology has enabled a new generation of cost-effective, highly scalable, feature-rich platforms that support voice, data and IPTV that we’re now shipping in production volumes."
Currently, telecom OEMs are required to assemble software and hardware components from many different suppliers in order to create systems that network service providers can easily integrate into their networks. By collaborating early with software, hardware and system integration providers, LSI is developing a set of optimized, pre-integrated and highly scalable platforms that are designed to substantially reduce both the time and cost of delivering next-generation systems to the OEMs and the market. In addition, the APP processor enables any-to-any communications services through a robust set of innovative, service-aware features for rapidly growing broadband networks.
