Discreet Delivers New Tools and Services for Digital Artists

SIGGRAPH — Los Angeles, CA — Discreet, a division of Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), has opened its “Connect”-themed exhibition at SIGGRAPH 2004, the international conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques. Discreet is showcasing a powerful product line-up designed to deliver on the digital content creation needs of the gaming, film and television markets.

“At SIGGRAPH 2004, we’re demonstrating new releases across our product lines,” said Martin Vann, vice president of sales and marketing at Discreet. “The latest versions of our 3ds max® animation software, lustre® colour grading system, and inferno®, flame® and flint® visual effects suite provide an expanded toolset to digital artists. Discreet’s 3ds max 7 – the latest version of its acclaimed 3D modeling, animation and rendering software – is being shown publicly for the first time at SIGGRAPH. 3ds max software is the most popular professional 3D modeling and animation application available today, and was used to generate visual effects in motion pictures such as The Day After Tomorrow and The Last Samurai, and the majority of award-winning PC and console games, including Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 The Game (Treyarch), Grand Theft Auto III series (Rockstar), Halo and Halo 2 (Bungie). Turbo Squid, worldwide publisher for the Discreet Certified 3ds max Plug-in Program, has just released Turbo Toolkit 2, a suite of 10 premium Discreet Certified 3ds max Plug-ins in a single product. The newly certified Plug-ins include: hairfx – a hair and fur creation tool; clothfx, for the creation of realistic fabrics and tailor-made clothing for characters and creatures; and finalRender, Stage-1, a top-selling rendering and raytracing solution with unlimited network rendering. Also being demonstrated for the first time are Discreet’s lustre 2.5 digital grading and color correction system, and new versions of real-time compositing and visual effects systems, inferno 6, flame 9 and flint 9, for feature film and television post-production and graphics. Discreet is developing a next-generation shared storage solution with longtime partner Silicon Graphics and DataDirect Networks, as demand for high-performance collaborative environments continues to grow in the digital content creation industry. (announced separately)

Today, Discreet also launched its Professional Services division. Comprised of domain experts, systems engineers and product specialists, this division offers Discreet customers a competitive advantage with expert analysis and recommendations for fast and efficient hardware/ software configurations, thereby facilitating implementation and customized workflow solutions and training. During SIGGRAPH, Discreet is offering 12 Master Classes for attendees looking to evolve their skills on 3ds max, combustion® and character studio® software.
