McAfee, Inc., the world’s largest dedicated security technology
company, announced that its computer security products support Microsoft
Windows 7, the new Microsoft operating system that was officially released
today.
McAfee security products for consumers and businesses provide necessary
protection for Windows 7 users against threats such as viruses, spyware, Trojan
horses, hacker intrusions and malicious Web sites. In addition, McAfee
encryption and data loss prevention solutions for enterprises will support
Windows 7.
“McAfee technology ensures computer users around the globe have security
protection available for their use of Windows 7. People upgrading their
operating system should also upgrade their computer security,” said Dave DeWalt,
McAfee president and chief executive officer. “We continue to see an elevated
cybersecurity threat landscape with unprecedented levels of malicious software
seen this year by McAfee Labs. Windows 7 is just as prone to attack as previous
versions of Microsoft’s operating systems.”
Already Microsoft has had to address critical security flaws in Windows 7.
Earlier this month Microsoft issued its biggest software patch on record to fix
a range of security issues in its software programs, including Windows 7.
Several of the security flaws could allow a remote attacker to commandeer a
vulnerable Windows system after the user simply views a rigged Web site. McAfee
provided protection against exploitation of most of these security threats on
the day of Microsoft’s patch release.
McAfee Enterprise Products
All McAfee products designed to protect computers used by businesses,
governments and other organizations support Windows 7. This includes the
flagship McAfee Total Protection for Endpoint and the McAfee Total Protection
Service.
McAfee technology provides organizations with the peace of mind that they are
protected against attacks that exploit Windows vulnerabilities such as those
disclosed by Microsoft earlier this month. With this protection, IT teams can
implement patches on their own schedule, saving time, money, and effort.
McAfee is an end-to-end technology provider with an interlocked,
comprehensive set of security products that can be managed centrally by the
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator security management platform. Moreover, the
comprehensive set of McAfee-based products and services not only secures
Microsoft infrastructure, but the total enterprise.
Citrix Systems, Inc., a leading provider of virtualization, networking and
software-as-a-service (SaaS) technologies, is an early adopter of Windows 7 and
is rolling the operating system across its business to as many as 12,000
endpoints. Citrix is installing McAfee Total Protection for Endpoint at the same
time.
“With McAfee-based products supporting Windows 7, we can securely roll out
the new Microsoft operating systems in our enterprise,” said Richard LaBella,
manager corporate IT security at Citrix. “Now is the time to update the
operating system, it is also the time to update the necessary security tools to
make sure the endpoints are properly protected.”
McAfee Consumer Products
All consumer products from McAfee support the new operating system. Existing
customers have already begun receiving the latest version of McAfee-based
products that support Windows 7; other users can install the Windows 7
compatible version from the McAfee.com Web site.
McAfee-based products provide users with complete protection, including
protecting against vulnerabilities and threats that their system, data and
family are exposed to with the new Microsoft operating system and other third
party applications. Users should protect their Windows 7 system, data and
network by installing an up-to-date security product, just as they should with
any operating system.
