The American LCD TV brand Vizio led the North American market in the first half, with the company`s CEO William Wang claiming his company`s annual shipments are expected to double to six million units this year and challenge 10 million by 2010.
Vizio contracts two Taiwan-based assemblers, AmTRAN Technology, Co. Ltd. and TPV Technology Ltd., as suppliers, and the American brand will partner with Innolux Display Corp. in Taiwan to supply 19- and 22-inch super-thin LED-backlit TVs next year. Innolux is expected to win contract order from Vizio for at least one million TVs, industry insiders said.
After years in the Taiwan market, Vizio finally led the American LCD TV segment in the second quarter this year with a market share of 21.7%. Vizio has grown rapidly over the past few years, shipping 3.5 million TVs in 2008, with about six million forecast for 2009.
Wang pointed out that cost being pivotal in the LCD TV business, so Vizio decided to work with Taiwanese partners. Industry insiders said that Vizio`s new partner, Innolux of the Hon Hai Group, has been building its assembly business for years and the company`s LCD monitor shipments this year are already close to that of TPV, the world`s largest supplier of LCD monitors.
This year, Innolux has invested ample resources into small-sized LCD TVS, multi-functional monitors, LED backlights etc., while the company is expected to ship more than one million LCD TVs to Vizio next year, bringing up its total annual shipments between four to six million LCD TVs.
