Chip firm Via said it has made improvements to its Xine open source player which supports MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 video acceleration for entertainment devices.
According to Via, VeXP 3.0 can include such support for sstems using its CN400 or CLE266 chipsets.Media formats supported include AVI, ASF, CDDA, DVD, MP3, VCD/RM. The firm claims that when the forthcoming Epia SP mini ITX and N Nano ITX boards are released, the player can reduce workload on CPUs by 50%.
Distributions supported include Fedora Core 1, Mandrake 9.2, Montavista 3.1, Red Flag 4, Red Hat 7.3/8/9 and SuSE 8.1.
