Sonic Solutions and Entone, Inc., a leading provider of IPTV home connectivity solutions, today announced they are partnering to provide telecommunications operators a comprehensive entertainment solution that combines live broadcast TV and DVR capabilities with instant access to OTT (over-the-top) entertainment powered by Roxio CinemaNow.
"Entone and Sonic are well positioned to take advantage of new and growing opportunities in the over-the-top market segment," said Mike Galli, OTT Analyst at MRG, Inc. "Operators looking to offer video services to their existing and growing broadband subscriber base are certain to benefit from this collaboration that combines Roxio CinemaNow’s rich content offering with Entone’s leadership position in bringing together traditional pay TV and online media services."
"Instead of competing with OTT services, telco operators can now supplement managed services by providing online video as part of their service without requiring consumers to invest in additional equipment," said Mark Evensen, VP of Product Development for Entone. "The integration of the Roxio CinemaNow technology platform will provide operators access to larger libraries of movies and videos, at the same time, providing consumers an enhanced viewing experience via a single user interface and remote control."
As a market leader in IPTV, Entone’s focus is to enable access to rich media, including live television and recorded content, throughout the home without requiring new wiring or set-tops at each TV. With Entone’s new hybrid TV service platform, the availability of recorded content includes both programs stored on a whole-home DVR or on cloud-based services such as Roxio CinemaNow.
"Entone is a pioneer in integrating OTT services into the operator model. Through our partnership, we are able to leverage Entone’s direct channel of more than 80 telco operators to expand our customer base and device ecosystem," said Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy, Sonic Solutions. "With Entone’s hybrid TV service platform, consumers can now access Roxio CinemaNow powered services conveniently from any TV in the home."
Roxio CinemaNow services are able to deliver a massive selection of premium video entertainment for rental or purchase. CinemaNow’s cloud-based media services power devices from multiple manufacturers, forming a connected ecosystem that consumers can use to seamlessly choose, move and view video entertainment. The CinemaNow ecosystem currently includes PCs, connected TVs, set top DVRs, Blu-ray Disc and mobile media players from leading manufacturers.
Roxio CinemaNow powered premium services will be available to Entone’s telco customers via an IPTV service model or via Entone’s new SelecTV service that will be released later this year.
Product demonstrations can be seen at the Entone booth (#833) during the TelcoTV O9 conference and tradeshow in Orlando, Florida .
