Orange upgrades set-top box, announces upcoming products

Orange France will start offering a new set-top box in four stores in December, then across the country. The operator announced the new product as part of collection of future releases. The new STB is free to subscribers with a EUR 49 deposit, and a recording option with a 160 GB capacity will be available for EUR 5 per month. The new Livebox will feature a new design, IPTV via ADSL and fibre, satellite receiver and DTT in high definition, time-shifting capabilities, a removable hard drive for recording and an easier-to-use, more ergonomic remote control. The box will also offer a new animated user interface.

Orange’s new collection also includes a new media centre concept in partnership with Intel and Samsung, integrating a Blu-ray player, Bluetooth remote control and a web portal to download applications and games in 2D and 3D. The Orange Softphone, to be released in France in mid-2010, will allow customers to receive fixed-line calls on their Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone when inside the home. The Livephone Touch home phone, promised for the end of next year, is a home phone with a handset and touchscreen display. It will allow users to answer a second call without hanging up, transfer calls to a mobile, make calls by touching the photo of a person in the family visual phonebook, send text messages to contacts or contact groups, and check information on the internet while speaking.
