Services Buy Broadens Sun’s Software Support

SevenSpace will be absorbed entirely into Sun’s Services operation. “It is growing more evident by the day that ‘one size fits all’ outsourcing is history,” said Marissa Peterson, executive vice president at Sun Services.

News source: E-Commerce Times Sun Microsystems has acquired enterprise applications management company SevenSpace, allowing its managed services arm to support HP-UX and IBM’s AIX systems for the first time.

According to Sun, the cash deal should be completed by spring 2005 and SevenSpace will be absorbed entirely into its Services operation. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“It is growing more evident by the day that ‘one size fits all’ outsourcing is history,” said Marissa Peterson, executive vice president at Sun Services.

“Sun is focused on addressing these requirements for all platforms, not simply Sun’s. The acquisition of SevenSpace reinforces that commitment, and builds on Sun’s remote servicing expertise to extend to a world of new customers.”

SevenSpace’s main business is managing enterprise applications, including Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) eBusiness Suite, SAP (NYSE: SAP) , PeopleSoft (Nasdaq: PSFT) and Siebel (Nasdaq: SEBL) . It has operations in 14 countries.
