CHIP GIANT Intel said that future specs of Serial ATA will double its signalling speed and give it additional cable and connectors. The spec for the S-ATA signalling speed at 3Gbps is now complete, while the release candidate for this is being ratified. Curent S-ATA signalling speed is 1.5Gbps.
The ratification process takes 30 days and products are all ready to roll when that’s completed, Intel said. No special cables need to be used for the higher signalling speeds. But there are some additional cabling and connector variants on the way, as Intel also said volume two of the spec is also complete, and going through the ratification process.
