Microsoft is preparing to break the price of the Surface RT tablet to $350 this Sunday, July 14 in the United States.
On July 14, in the United States, Microsoft will lower the retail price of the various versions of the Surface RT tablet by 150 dollars. This news was learned from the website The Verge and then it was confirmed by the distributor that supplies through Staples office of an advertising leaflet.
- Surface RT 32 GB: $350 instead of 500, a drop of 43%!
- Surface RT 64 GB: $450 instead of 600, a decrease of 33%
- Surface RT 32 GB with keyboard Touch Cover: $450 instead of 600
- Surface RT 64GB with keyboard Touch Cover: $550 instead of 700, a 27% discount
These are no temporary promotions, these are the final price that are reduced in government accessible to all Americans. They will take place just days after Microsoft officially announced the Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) that was preparing renewal of Surface RT and Surface Pro, and a few days after the announcement of a rebate program for teaching.
One might think that Microsoft is afraid of not selling its stocks before starting over. By comparison, Apple sold 19.5 million iPad in just last quarter.
Surface RT still can not run other applications than the Windows Store for Modern UI, but passing $350 it still significantly improves its price/performance. Nothing yet indicates that a price drop will occur in Europe, but it seems unlikely that it will happen sooner or later.
