WeChat now positioned as a top rival to WhatsApp

The field of mobile messaging platform is booming and WeChat service could be a placed alongside Skype, WhatsApp or Viber now.
 

The Chinese company Tencent has recently published its financial report in which it said that its main services WeChat and Weixin together hold 235,800,000 users per month. This would represent an annual increase of over 175%. WeChat is available on most mobile platforms namely: iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, or Symbian S40.
 

WeChat offers a broad range of features, whether it’s instant messaging, audio and video calls, creating groups or organize sessions for sharing photos, accompanied by a series of custom emoticons.

 


 

In May, Tencent claimed 50 million users outside of Chinese mobile users, a figure that has increased from 70 million last month to 100 million today. According to The Guardian, in July, it was the most downloaded app through official platforms in Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, the Philippines, Spain, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey.
 

WeChat is starting to overshadow WhatsApp claiming to share 300 million users while Viber has 200 million accounts, Tango with 100 million and BlackBerry with 60 million on BBM. For its part Skype announced in June that they have 100 million users for its Android app.
