
The start-up Jolla company confirms the compatibility of its Sailfish OS platform with Android, allowing it to run mobile applications directly.
While the company Jolla will soon deliver its first smartphone equipped with the platform Sailfish OS based on MeeGo: the Android mobile applications can run without changes to its mobile OS.
The company says that this is made possible by a hardware platform used with Sailfish OS which is comparable to that used for Android devices and sees beyond the ability of device manufacturers to license its platform with various hardware configurations.
“We believe that the compatibility with Android Sailfish is a highly effective option for major mobile manufacturers in Europe and Asia. We are already in discussions with several major Asian manufacturers for this opportunity,” says Tomi Pienimäki, CEO of Jolla.
For a young ecosystem such as Sailfish, which doesnt yet have large community of developers or agreements to be the most mobile applications views, it is still a major step forward in the recognition of the platform, with immediate access to many applications, the most frequently downloaded.
“For example, popular applications like Instagram, WhatsApp or Spotify can run directly on Sailffish OS” said the CEO. It remains to be seen how smooth these mobile apps will be running on Android. Other manufacturers have tried to carry on their Android platform but with less responsiveness to native
