A new lock screen will be offered to Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones. It will allow further customization.
This should greatly interest the Windows Phone 8.1 users a lot for customization on their smartphone.
In parallel with the recent update stamped 8.1 which notably comes with the virtual voice assistant Cortona, Microsoft has indeed deployed an update that will bring a whole new API for the lockscreen to increase the level of customization that some feel a bit limited (wallpaper, music playing, notifications and password) and responsible for a certain homogeneity within Windows Phone.
To take advantage, it will then go through a separate download, but also have a RAM of 1 GB. Thus devices such as Lumia 520, Lumia 620, Lumia 625, Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 will be not supported by this app. Blame it on a RAM of 512 MB.
According to the latest information relayed by Joe Belfiore, head of the Windows Phone division at Microsoft, a test with a beta version and only in English could be proposed in the coming week, once a few bug fixes and the latest feature gets added.
