TOSHIBA has announced a snack sized 100GB 2.5-inch hard drive. The new HDD – the MK1031GAS – is only 9.5mm high, and marks the highest area density ever made for sale, with 80 gigabits per square inch, Toshiba claims.
Toshiba willl also make a 50GB model. This drive uses 20% less power consumption than models currently available, which it says is because of “Pulse Width Modulation” technology, and includes a DC-DC converter in the power unit itself.
We’ll be able to see how it performs next month, when samples of the MK1031GAS are made available. µ
