Microsoft Completed the Acquisition of Sentillion Inc. A Healthcare Software Provider

Microsoft deepens investment in healthcare to accelerate impact on patient care globally.

Microsoft Corp. has completed the acquisition of Sentillion Inc., a privately held company specializing in software for the healthcare industry. Microsoft will add Sentillion’s technologies to its portfolio of health solutions to make it easier for doctors and nurses worldwide to deliver better patient care by streamlining access to multiple health IT applications and data.

The acquisition brings the Sentillion team and products to the Microsoft Health Solutions Group led by Corporate Vice President Peter Neupert. Operating out of its offices in Andover, Mass., the Sentillion team will continue to sell and support its product line while Microsoft invests in the long-term evolution of the combined Sentillion and Microsoft health solutions.

“We’re excited to bring Sentillion’s talent, thought leadership and innovation in health IT into the Health Solutions Group,” Neupert said. “Combining our assets will allow us to offer healthcare providers a much simpler way to access and use the applications and information they need to perform at the highest levels. Acquiring Sentillion will allow us to amplify and accelerate our impact on health IT and health globally.”

By combining Sentillion’s context management and single sign-on technologies with Amalga Unified Intelligence System (UIS), a real-time data aggregation solution, Microsoft’s goal is to give clinicians new insight about patients in real time and enable them to perform the appropriate task with unprecedented speed. At the same time, the workflow of clinicians will be simplified, allowing them to spend less time navigating different IT systems and more time with patients.

Microsoft also will further explore synergies between Sentillion technologies and Microsoft’s identity and access management solutions, including Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager 2010.
