Online retail sales were up 26% in Q2 this year from Q2 last year, reaching $21.1 billion, the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce reported today. Total retail sales for the second quarter of 2005 were estimated at $940.8 billion, an increase of 8.4% from second quarter of last year. The numbers are adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes.
On a not-adjusted basis, the Census Bureau estimates online retail sales for the second quarter at $19.8 billion up 25.7% from the second quarter of 2004. Total retail sales on a not-adjusted basis increased 8.1%.
The Commerce Department numbers differ by 12% from Q2 numbers reported by comScore Networks Inc.–$17.6 billion, up 26.3% from a year ago.
