Neofonie launches WePad tablet

Tablets media will they succeed where readers e-paper have not kept all their promises, namely to provide a satisfactory support for newspapers and magazines? Several concepts tablet clearly show that ambition, in the wake of the launch of the iPad tablet of Apple.

The German company also Neofonie. Its concept was announced as WePad built for the needs of publishers. The tablet embeds a tactile display 11.6 "1366 x 768 pixel resolution, an Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz, 16GB of flash memory, an SD slot, wireless connectivity and Bluetooth wireless and a webcam and two USB ports.

The dimensions of the WePad are 288 x 190 x 13 mm 800 g with a Li-Ion battery which should provide up to 6 hours of battery life. Interestingly, it uses a layer Android and has access to the Android Market. It is also compatible with Flash and AIR and is advertised as being able to use all open ebook formats as well as a proprietary format. In addition to reading digital books, it should allow access to certain information on the web, at least in the form of widgets.

It can accept optional modules 3G and GPS. The first images of the tablet suggest a partnership with the German publisher Springer paid content has been negotiated. The price of the tablet WePad of Neofonie is not known but its distribution could start from the month of May 2010.
