iXsystems, Inc. server families that previously utilized Intel Xeon 5500 series processors now leverage the latest Intel Xeon 5600 series processors as well. The iX-Neutron, iX-Green Neutron, Gemini Twin, Gemini Squared, and Orion I and II server series are all compatible with the Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors in addition to Intel Xeon 5500 Series Processors.
One of the most significant advances associated with the Intel Xeon 5600 Processor Series is the increase from four to six maximum processing cores per chip, while maintaining the same power envelope. This increase allows iXsystems to offer dual-core, quad-core, and now six-core processors in any servers previously utilizing Intel Xeon 5500 Series CPUs.
The Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors feature a new 32nm architecture that utilizes Intel’s new second-generation high-k metal gate transistors, allowing for greater speed and decreased energy consumption in comparison to the 45nm architecture.
Just like its predecessor, the Intel Xeon Processor 5600 Series automatically regulates power consumption and intelligently adjusts server performance according to the needs of the application being run. However, servers upgraded to new Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors showcase greater performance and power savings than servers using the Intel Xeon 5500 Series Processors.
Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors deliver up to 30 percent lower power consumption than their 5500 Series predecessors. In addition, the Intel Xeon 5600 Processor Series is capable of performance increases of up to 60 percent over the Intel Xeon 5500 Series Processors.
By utilizing Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processors, one of iXsystems’ six-core servers may replace 15 single-core servers and still yield a return on investment in as little as 5 months. In addition, with new security features built into the Intel Xeon 5600 Series CPUs, iXsystems servers utilizing these CPUs deliver faster encryption and decryption performance to enhance datacenter and virtualization security more than ever before.
