Find In Page 2.0 is now available

iPad is touted as the best way to experience the web – it is clearly a device designed to take web browsing to the next level. The Find In Page plugin for the iPad Safari browser is designed with a power web surfer in mind: it augments the iPad web browsing experience with the ability to quickly search for text inside any webpage loaded in Safari.

Find In Page docks a slick semi-transparent toolbar at the bottom of the Safari window to serve as the iPad equivalent of the familiar Edit-Find menu and the Ctrl F or Command F keyboard shortcuts generally available in traditional web browsers, including Safari on the Mac.

The app is downloaded from the App Store and delivers the toolbar to be installed into the browser as a "bookmarklet" – the only way new features can be added directly to the mobile Safari browser. Once installed, accessing in-page search functionality on any webpage is exactly 2 taps – same as the two clicks required for Edit-Find in traditional browsers.

With more and more people using Safari on Apple’s mobile devices to browse the Web for work and play, the lack of in-page search functionality in this browser has been a mystery. After all, every other browser including Safari on the Mac features the ability to simply find text in page – why not its mobile counterpart? We may never know the answer, but Find In Page delivers a practical solution today – it has proven itself a success on the iPhone and iPod touch, and, with Find In Page 2.0, this vital productivity tool is now available for the iPad.
