Novatel Wireless Announces MiFi As Registered Trademark Of U.S. Patent And Trademark Office

Industry’s First Intelligent Mobile Hotspot Registered With U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Novatel Wireless, Inc., a leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced that is has secured MiFi as an officially registered trademark of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The MiFi brand of hardware and software products and services represents the industry’s first intelligent mobile hotspot, a new category of mobile broadband that lets users put their world of content, services and connectivity in the palm of their hand. Unlike existing router solutions that require an external broadband modem and serve only to provide connectivity, the MiFi platform creates a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be easily shared between multiple users and up to five Wi-Fi devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players.  The MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot serves as an intelligent, open platform capable of hosting advanced software applications and flexible enough to address the continued evolution of mobile broadband.

"As the creator and first-to-market with the intelligent mobile hotspot product category, this registered trademark will protect the brand value of Novatel Wireless and the MiFi product line, which we have been building up during the last year. It has been extraordinary to experience how we in record time have built a brand that enjoys household recognition via superior product innovation and the MiFi user experience," said Rob Hadley, CMO, Novatel Wireless. "As Novatel Wireless continues to increase product, services and application adoption around the world, this registered trademark will help customers and partners distinguish the Novatel Wireless MiFi brand as the industry leading intelligent mobile hotspot."
