In the field of high performance computing, Microsoft announced the availability of Windows HPC Server 2008 R2.
Microsoft released a solution for the HPC (High Performance Computing), namely the high performance computing for powerful computers used for numerical simulations such as climate change, but also clustered servers used by offices studies, for scientific research, financial analysis.
Windows HPC Server includes the operating system, everything needed to build the cluster, manage the list of works requested by the corporate network… This solution was recently given an update: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2.
Windows HPC Server R2 provides better integration with applications such as Excel. According to Microsoft, HPC Services for Excel 2010 can significantly reduce the computing time of large Excel spreadsheets: 14 hours to less than 3 minutes for a workbook containing 1700 records .
The solution can also be used for applications of parallel computing. With partners like Intel and NVIDIA, and Microsoft says provide an integrated platform for parallel computing.
Moreover, by the end of the year, an update of Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 will turn cloud computing and will deploy and manage nodes in HPC clusters for Windows Azure servers on site.
