Detroit Media Partnership today announced the release of new applications for
both The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press for use on iPhone, BlackBerry and
Android mobile phones. These free apps, sponsored by the Southeast Michigan
Ford Dealers, give users the latest news, sports, business and entertainment
headlines. Global Positioning System technology also provides users with
localized weather and traffic updates based on their current location anywhere
in the world. IPhone and Android users can download these free apps directly at
the Apple App Store and Android Market Web sites now. BlackBerry users must
access the following Web addresses on their device: http://detnews.mlnwap.com
for The Detroit News, and http://dfp.mlnwap.com for Detroit Free Press until icons are
posted at the BlackBerry App World which is expected in the next week.
"People consume news all day long and in different ways," said Susie Ellwood, CEO of Detroit Media Partnership. "We’re
proud to work with the Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers on this exciting launch
that puts Michigan‘s most trusted and relied upon
news coverage right at users’ fingertips."
Rick Bartus, Director of Advertising for the
Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers advertising agency added, "This association
continues to keep Ford and its Detroit area
dealers associated with leading technologies that consumers expect today."
The apps were developed in collaboration with DoApp Inc – currently, the
largest provider of mobile news apps in the Apple App Store. DoApp’s platform
"Mobile Local News" is currently used by more than 200 television news stations,
radio stations, and newspapers in more than 80 U.S. markets.
"Our goal is to deliver news and information to consumers when and how they
want it – and that includes news about retail products and services such as
those provided by Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers. These apps are another
example of our commitment to do that," Ellwood said.
The release of these applications is part of Detroit Media Partnership’s
strategic plan to expand the distribution of content on multiple platforms.
