Check Point buys Sourcefire

CHECK POINT has bought fellow security vendor Sourcefire for $225 million to boost its stake in the intrusion prevention market. Sourcefire makes the open source Snort intrusion prevention system as well as the Intrusion Sensor, Real-Time Network Awareness and Defense Center product lines. These will now be integrated with Check Point’s own InterSpect and Integrity internal security product lines.

“Sourcefire will extend Check Point’s unified security architecture with attack definitions and intelligent threat-detection technologies and expand our solution portfolio in the areas of intrusion prevention and network awareness,” said Gil Shwed, Check Point chairman and CEO.

Sourcefire products will be available through the Check Point channel once the acquisition is finalised.
