infiniCloud Beta, a cloud computing service Launched by Logicworks

Enterprise hosting provider Logicworks announced the launch of infiniCloud, a cloud computing service that targets commercial and enterprise-level projects.

“To date, cloud computing has mostly been used as a testing and development tool or a method to offload non-critical applications or content” said Logicworks President and COO Kenneth Ziegler. “When we talk about moving ‘real apps’ into the cloud, we’re targeting profit-centers like primetime media sites, financial and healthcare applications, massive multiplayer online games, and e-commerce. There is a real need in market place for the blending of dynamic cloud computing and managed hosting for high-performance applications. We’ve built our managed cloud services to address this need, starting with infiniCloud.” The Company said the key capabilities that are needed to address this market are performance, integrated managed services, and seamless migration and integration with existing enterprise IT. infiniCloud provides an easy adoption path to help enterprises make their initial move onto the cloud, as well as an evolution path that can adapt to handle mission-critical applications.

Logicworks noted it constructed infiniCloud upon three cornerstones: Real Infrastructure for Real Applications – While many cloud services run on massive pools of commodity servers, InfiniCloud was built with high-performance hardware: Xeon Westmere processors, 40 Gbps storage networking, and the option for SATA or 15K SAS RAID 10 disk arrays. This infrastructure delivers higher performance and greater consistency across virtual machines – a key requirement for supporting profit-center applications.

Full Suite of Managed Services – While many public clouds do not offer support, critical applications need the same level of managed services that Logicworks provides to its dedicated server clients. infiniCloud offers services for application monitoring, server patching, firewall security, intrusion detection (IDS), database clustering, PCI, HIPAA, and SAS-70 Type II Compliance, CDN, load balancing, traffic management, and disaster recovery.

Migration – Logicworks can manage the process of cloud capacity planning, migrating existing apps into infiniCloud, and integrating infiniCloud with in-house IT. Enterprises that already take advantage of virtualization can import and export virtual machines to and from Logicworks in both open-source cloud and VMware formats. Logicworks’ engineers can seamlessly move virtual machines between infiniCloud, in-house IT, and other systems at Logicworks like private clouds, dedicated servers, and managed database clusters.

“Logicworks’ first-class cloud offerings highlight the power and flexibility of today’s cloud computing environment, underscoring the importance of this platform,” said Hans Zaunere, President and Founder of New York PHP.

The infiniCloud beta will run through the end of the year, followed by a full public release in January 2011. infiniCloud is an on-demand service priced according to RAM-hour, storage, and bandwidth utilization. Managed services are purchased a la carte at fixed monthly rates. Logicworks reports a surge in interest surrounding the infiniCloud beta release and already has clients queued up for launch including multiple xBox titles, websites for broadcast television networks, online investment and trading services, and Digital healthcare applications.

Logicworks delivers enterprise hosting and cloud solutions exclusively to high-growth customers in need of high-availability for their most critical applications and content. Logicworks customers are SaaS providers, e-commerce sites, and the most well known content destinations on the web, including Major League Baseball, iVillage, and Dow Jones Factiva.
