REPORTS FROM ASIA said that Samsung has won a major deal to supply memory to Sonyfor use in an 8GB player.
But that’s not the only memory win Samsung’s likely to make. According to a Bloomberg report, the Korean chaebol will also make the bulk of the memory models used in the Playstation 3. This uses memory modules using Rambus technology. Playstation Portables use NAND flash.
The news sent shares of Samsung soaring by 14 per cent on the South Korea bourse. Bloomberg estimates that if the Sony report is correct, that will soak up 20 per cent of Samsung’s memory production.
