POLICE IN China, Turkey, Korea and Germany have swooped on the owners of eight web sites believed to be involved in an Aussie phishing scam.
The scam involved the National Australia and Commonweath banks with a few Westpac customers. It was made public when the West Australian Government warned bank customers that tens of thousands of West Australians had received fake bank emails.
The emails claimed to be official requests for bank details from the National Australia and Commonwealth banks.
The emails were sent out on Boxing Day and the same is believed to one of the biggest frauds in Aussie banking history.
A team of security specialists managed to track the emails and the sites and found where the cyber crims were working.
