Sony has plans to put PS3 online

THE WORD until very recently has been that Sony was going to be hands-off about online gaming on the PS3.Even after the obvious success of the Xbox Live service, the Japanese giant still claimed to be sticking to its guns and leaving such details to individual publishers and developers.

But then Sony started shooting off a thirty-three-question survey asking exceedingly onliney things like: “On a typical day, how often do you play games online?” And wondering whether, “game lobbies should be based geographically,” and shrewd reporter-types got suspicious.

Sure enough, according to gameshout, Sony has confirmed that it will indeed be offering an online service for the PS3. We can only assume it’s been forced to keep up with the Joneses. Not that I mind. Online mutliplayer PS3 action sounds wicked. I just hope it won’t delay the PS3’s release, or even worse, I hope its not planning on charging for the service.Looks like Sony has its ear to the ground, or at least somewhere below its knees.
