Microsoft has cancelled this year’s TechEd conference in Amsterdam and is replacing it with a smaller event to be held in Barcelona later this year.
The new show will no longer hold sessions for IT professionals, and instead be aimed exclusively at developers, said Ruud de Jonge, manager of the Developer and Platform Group for Microsoft in the Netherlands.
Originally scheduled for the first week in July, the event now be on 6 November, before Microsoft’s annual IT Forum, also being held in Barcelona. The TechEd event has also been renamed to reflect its narrower focus to Microsoft TechEd 2006: Developers.
TechEd Europe has taken place in July for the past decade. Microsoft claimed it decided to reschedule the event because July is a typical holiday month in big parts of Europe, and also so that it will no longer be in conflict with TechEd US, which takes place mid-June.
