SGI, Microsoft team up on high performance computing

SGI SAID it has struck a deal with Microsoft to push high performance computing (HPC) to a wider audience.

They will offer Microsoft Windows Compute Server 2003 on SGI Altix XE cluster systems using Intel quad core and dual core Xeons.

That deal will start in March 2007.

SGI said the OEM agreement will mean it will offer factory integrated machines aimed at engineers, scientists, and enterprise customers.

Prices will start at around $3,500 per node.
