In September 2002, Divine Divinity had managed to create a surprise by winning many fans of RPGs, the Belgians Larian Studios had managed to build a nice little reputation. Alas, things are then a little spoiled with Beyond Divinity which is probably too good. So for the next installment of its franchise, the young team has decided to completely revise its copy: transition to 3D, change gameplay mimicry and rigor!

Dungeons and Dragons?

Unsurprisingly, Divinity 2 opens with the classic phase of character creation that allows you to select some of the main characteristics of its future best friend. Things are already more surprising where we see finally the relatively small number of characteristics, skills and abilities. Once we have defined the contours of our avatar, the adventure can begin and with it the quest of our apprentice Draconis whose only goal is to become a full member of the order of dragon hunters begins.

On the verge of completing its training, our hero is not yet sufficiently considered by its peers to launch an assault on the dragon knight seen in the region. During that, it will tease the great creature, we must stay in the village to collect information and report to our supervisor. After a very brief tutorial, this step smells extension to Larian Studios and thereby is also an opportunity to discover the region by meeting some villagers and get different quests which is not too complicated.

At this level, Divinity 2 proposes a significant variety, even if the so-called side quests are very often categorized. Many of them require us to actually play as the delivery men. Fortunately, developers often have slipped a touch of humor which is quite unusual in a role-playing game (RPG) as such. Note also the opportunity to read the minds of non-player characters (NPCs) to learn.

This ability allows here to learn how to open a chest visibly well stocked. Later in the game, their are decorative elements that serve us as triggers for quests which pushes the player to browse more than usual. Indeed, one of the strengths of Divinity 2 is the freedom that is left to the player. There is of course a main scenario, but around that many missions annexes, sometimes in several stages are there to bring some freshness to the whole.

We must also criticize the interface which is not necessarily well suited. Firstly, no progress indicator is looking at the rendezvous, but above map is hopelessly devoid of information. Nothing about teleporters that can not be typing back and forth repeatedly, the player must mark himself if he wants to keep track! Nothing about the location of any NPC it must find once the mission is accomplished.

During the first part of the adventure - a little ten minutes of play - something that must guide him to discover his fate as a Dragon Knight. If you start the game as a slayer of dragons, our hero quickly exchanges board and the discovery of a stone gives it the power to transform into a
