Going for an open source product is a good alternative today due to vast development and awareness. Open source community plays a vital role in development of free products thus in return they contribute greatly in development of society. Many areas like educational institution, charitable organization, etc cannot afford commercial products on a wide range. For that open source tools are right substitute. It is not only the reason for choosing an open source another reason is sharing and caring for everyone. Today open source products compete with commercial product and are successful. LibreOffice is one from it. Office Suite is a set of application which gives you wide variety of tools to deal with day to day business. A word pad, a spread sheet, a presentation tool, drawing tool, etc. Compare to Microsoft Office or Office XP, LibreOffice is filled with features and productivity. You do not need to worry about the charges or complication technology. Very easy to use and free for download. This is one of the best contributions by open source community. In my views we should support open source community by donation so that they can provide us better free products.
These products came into existence by contribution of many skilled people. Microsoft Office in comparison to that is a commercial product which provides you rich interface and online support. But it charges you a free and the same is applicable for upgrade. Do commercial products affect spread of knowledge. To some extent yes. It is also correct that how companies will survive if they don't sell their product. So to maintain the balance open source offers you a low end alternative with similar features. Not exact the same but near to it. You can buy a system and add up an open source operating system like Linux and use LibreOffice on it. You can carry the same wherever you want. LibreOffice offers you a complete office package. The new version offers you more packed feature and power. Right now I had seen that it is possible to save the file in any format which is used widely today for Office files. Maybe you would not like the interface so much, but what matters here is productivity. Anyhow there are minor bugs related to cross compatibility between this tool and Microsoft Office. But that can be fixed by saving the file is compatible format.
Office Suite like LibreOffice and OpenOffice offers you wide range of tools to covert your system into workstation. You can do your entire job with it. This article discuss mostly on LibreOffice 3.5 version which is equipped with power pack and rich features. Anyhow if you are big institute and what a complete package of office app that can fit to day to day need you can have this one. LibreOffice is one of the oldest open source tools available today and luckily it is upgraded by time. This gives a user more power to deal with latest file format. The suite is available Windows, Mac and Linux. So does not really matter
