After giving some of the best budget Android Smartphones in the market Samsung successfully sold Galaxy Tab 2. Featuring super smoother screen, Optimized Android 4.0 ICS and 16GB Internal storage, that tab is much more handy compared to other devices under budget price of Rs.20,000. Compared to other budget tablet, Galaxy Tab 2 7” is far more superior. You might be thinking of investing around 20K in a tablet, and looking for a much cheaper alternative. It will be simply waste of money. The price gives you complete value on the product. You get the latest optimized OS. Optimized means, the OS is designed to work with the Tab with many more additional features that are hardly found in other devices. The best example I can give you is of Teamviewer Quick Support. You can see how to access your tablet on a computer here.
This app is specifically designed for Galaxy Tab 2 only. Everyone knows popular desktop sharing software Teamviewer. You can access your desktop on any system by using this tool. Now what if you can operate or share your tablet screen on your PC and control it. This is what you can do with Teamviewer Quick Support. There is no app I had seen which can help you to access and control your tablet screen through any other PC. I tried some, but the mouse of PC doe snot really sync with Tablet touch interface. There are number of things that are yet pending to be mentioned. If you get with a budget price of Rs. 10,000 to Rs.15,000, the feature that many end user want is SIM support, good storage and battery life, smoother touch screen, powerful and robust body and portability.
All things fit well inside Galaxy TAB 2. It offers you dual SIM slot. Once is to insert regular size SIM and other one for MicroSim. You can use 3G on the go. After using numerous tablet pc except iPad, I found the touch of Samung tablet far more better. One issue that commonly noticed among all is heating. The back side where the battery or cpu lies, it gets heated and you cannot hold the tablet for longer time. But in Galaxy Tab 2 this is less compared to others. Major heating issues are found in all budget Tablets. This issue cannot be ignored. 7” screen is just enough for you to surf web and play games. Due to small screen it is portable to carry. You can hold is easily on one hand with firm grip and make calls.
There are very less tablets I had seen which gives you a sim connectivity in that range. There are some local brands, but they are not optimum for usage. The reason lies with tons of bugs in them. You can easily find a tablet within Rs.8,000 to Rs.12,000 giving you a SIM support. But the common issue which his widely noticed is reception problem. And also poor battery lies in the same list. Unlike other tablet, Galaxy Tab has a different home-screen. It has more icons and widgets you can add and make it look the way you want. Like the audio/video player, any recent updates, etc. The issue which I had seen commonly with many tablets, is when you overload the tablet screen with apps, it takes long time to start and respond. Lagging is commonly notice. But with Galaxy Tab the performance is acceptable. If you are not sure what apps to add and what not to, then try Apps Recommendation. It is linked with Samsung App Store and Google Play. It will give you the listing of those apps which are going to work well. This gives a nice bifurcation of different software which confuses people a number of time.
Another unique feature that want to highlight in All Share. You would love to share your tablet videos and photos with other. But due to small screen size it is not easy to view. Just pair all the devices and launch All Share. The internal digital content can be viewed on a widescreen TV, smartphone and PC/laptop. There is no use to look for third party applications here. What’s App is another popular chat application which has gain a nice interest among people. To compete that Samsung introduced ChatON. This app is designed to bring your friends/family on single plat-from. Integrated with Google Plus support you can share content, make video call, create Google Plus Hangouts, initiate a Group Chat, etc. So you can see this is somewhat more we are getting.

Above you can find the list of specification that this device has. For optimum performance a 1Ghz cpu is used. That looks to be fine for ICS. In many tablet there is a issue with performance. The reason lies behind un-optimized operating system. If you can see Kindle Fire, you will notice a great difference between the actual ICS and the installed well. Amazon, has optimized that OS to work specifically with Kindle Fire. This gives boost to the performance and higher battery life. The same is done by Samsung. I had never found such a great difference in Android’s output. Like the menus, the settings, motion sensing settings, etc.
Front side: Secondary Camera, Call Speaker and Led Light
Back and Left Side: Primary Camera, Sim Slot and MicroSD Slot
Top: 3.5mm Headphone Jack
Bottom: USB/Charging Slot, 2 speakers
With powerful hardware support the OS perform much better. The body is designed properly and it fully plastic. Along with internal storage, you can add more through MicroSD card. The buttons on the body are common which include a power button, volume button, etc. Instead of microUSB connections, Samsung has used its own proprietary port. That makes the tablet a bit limited to connectivity. You cannot just hook the tablet with your pc without using special cable provided by Samsung. 7” screen is enough bright and works well. The touchscreen is very sensitive. Talking about the internal OS, as I had mentioned already above a number time, that optimizes Android OS offers more compared to others. Like quick social networking sharing, easy control to access wifi and other settings, etc. The reason behind is Touchwiz UX. This is a new user interface designed by Samsung to give better support on its device. While ample of budget tablet that you see work on default ICS interface only. There is a detailed video review available that has nice information on the applications and touch interface. To watch the video review click here – Samsung Galaxy Tab 2
This shows how really Samsung is keen in designing a device which is far more better and superior compared to others. I had used this device for couple days. Downloaded many news games and application from Google Play. The wifi settings are easy, and the speed is quiet fine. Till yet I had not yet faced issue with lagging or slow performance. It works nicely if you do not overload the tab with applications. For faster surfing experience do not forget to use Chrome. Now Samsung has worked hard on improving the OS interface, but they might not have control over the applications. So some apps does not really respond well. With bunch of pre-installed applications like alarm clock, a calculator, a email client, video player, audio player, etc you have everything you need to start. The front portion has a VGA camera and a mic. With acceptable quality for video chat you can communicate with your friends and family.
I had used Skype video calling on the tablet for some hours and found it effective. Due to vga camera, it will not produce a better image quality in low light. Back camera is 3MP which is traditionally found in many smartphones. It is capable of giving you quality photos and videos. Talking about the battery this tablet will be rated more. With 1Ghz dual core cpu and 1 GB RAM you can expect a decent performance, but somehow the battery lacks on multimedia usage. And the same drains quiet fast when you are on 3G or Wi-fi. The tablet is loaded with 4000 mAh battery. Even after using it for hours for surfing and watching videos, I was able to get a constant 6 hrs or higher battery life. And that is far more enough while other tablet dies within 4 hrs.
Apart from this, Galaxy Tab 2 also provides very good experience of calling features with great voice clarity. We get a clean dial pad, loudspeaker facility, video call option, and much more.
Samsung has provided a decent device for day to day need. The tablet is proper companion for traveling. The price is quiet acceptable as we can see the feature list is not at all small. The iPad 2 compared to this one might be 5 or 6000 rupees higher. Depending on the place you buy, but Android offers you more freedom in app usage compared to iOS. The tablet lands in the range of not so costly and not so cheap. Samsung products are always fine, and they can be trusted blindly in many ways. The initiative to provide device which comes in the mid range with high features is highly appreciated. I will put it in the list of mid range device and rate is 4 out of 6.
