BenQ EW2740L comes with thin border. It has sensor based touch button. Menu is simple but you will need a bit practice to use the buttons. I found the regular keys quiet easy compared to touch based. The entire body has a single light placed at the lower part of bottom right which turns to green when the monitor is on and orange when in standby mode. Thin border around the screen size is less distribution. 27inch screen size is simply amazing when you are playing HD videos on Cinema Mode. But if you are serious about working, then you can enable Text under Low Blue Light Mode that reduce the settings to 30% of actual giving a very comfortable non-hurting screen. Low light and good sharpness that makes every text clear. Flicker-Free is one of the major point that makes BenQ EW2740L a amazing pc screen. This does not harm your screen from any angle. No eye strain even if you are sitting in the front of screen for entire day. But if you are watching movies on Cinema Mode maintain a good distance. Atleast 3 meters from the actual screen or higher to get the right color output. Tiny light from behind on the top part will also help your eye to tolerate maximum light from the monitor.
You can see in the images the front look of BenQ EW2740L. This monitor features thin dark border with rough finish. Thick borders are sometime disturbing. All control buttons are placed at the right bottom with led below the corner. There are no extra stuff here. The screen just looks perfect for multimedia. with appropriate placement you can enjoy videos on it sitting back on the couch.
BenQ EW2740L is quiet thin. It does not require really large space. It is not having wall mount support on the backside. You can use a separate kit to hook it on wall if you want. But you have to leave a bit extra space for the connectors. From sides you can see the thickness. There are no buttons.
The backside features a glossy finish with smartly placed connectors. There is a single vertical strip with all connectors. There is no power button. The monitor will stay on standby mode always once connected to power socket. There is a single VGA port on the top following two hdmi at the bottom. The first HDMI port is a regular while the second one is a MHL certified. Where you can connect your android devices. Below that the green port is a 3.5mm audio jack. You can connect speakers on it. This monitor with a nice 2.1mm surround sound audio speaker will make amazing combination. A black port below is for headphone. And the last one is power port. The monitor comes with AC Adapter. The model is DA50F19. A 19V output adapter that simply means this monitor does not require much power. At the extreme right corner lies a Kensington lock and two speakers are placed in the center bottom. The speaker output is decent. It is not really great when you are watching movies. You need a separate one for better surround sound quality.
All control buttons are on the right bottom. There are in total a 6 buttons. This are touch buttons. The first one from the left is power. Second one is will start a tiny hotkey menu. You can customize this as per your need. The third button will open up the OSD menu from where you can change brightness , contrast, mode, set hot keys, etc. Entire monitor settings are accessible through this key. The fourth button will help you to adjust the speaker volume. The fifth button will help you to change the monitor source between D-Sub, HDMI 1 & HDMI 2.
And the sixth button will open up the low blue light panel from where you can choose from 4 different settings. (Multimedia, Web Surfing, Office and Reading). This mode is designed to give you maximum comfortable while working. The monitor settings are optimized on the basis of above for work.
BenQ EW2740L does not has anything special in the OSD Menu. Most of the settings are common which is widely available in different monitors. It has a separate key for the Low Blue light mode. Where you can instantly optimize the screen without messing with manual settings. That is a bit effective. In the menu under Picture Advancement you can find some helpful items. You can change from different picture mode, you can enable Sense Eye, you can change the display mode, modify color format and enable Super Resolution/Smart Focus.
BenQ EW2740L comes with simple stand. It is easy to fix. There is no height adjustment. I was expecting this. You can tilt the monitor to front and back as per your need. you can see in the images above, the maximum front and back tilt. The stand also comes with a phone holder. You can charge your mobile phone through the monitor. You just have to use the microUSB to HDMI cable on HDMI 2 (MHL) port and place the phone on the phone holder.
BenQ EW2740L features VA LED Panel. It is a high contrast screen offer you crisp images and videos. 3000:1 contrast ratio is more than enough. The maximum resolution it offers is 1920×1080. If you are having a good graphic card then there is nothing to worry much about the output quality. Below you can see my system configuration on which I had tested this monitor. I am able to get amazing screen on playing games also. BenQ also fulfills the audio requirement by adding standard speakers on the backside.
