Nokia C5 Smartphone Review

You no longer need to scroll up plenty of thousand of patches to get a
smartphone, and Nokia’s new smartphone, C5, confirms this with its price
of $195.

Nokia C5 is an excellent mobile phone with good features. At first it
can with its "enormous" keys and a simple-looking, light is taken to be
one of the cheapest phones on the market. Nokia C5 is a fully-fledged
smartphone with Symbian S60 as the menu system. What this means, we will
come back to!

The shape of Nokia C5 is mentioned very neutral. The edges are rounded,
the keys are so stereotypical design that you can get them, and menu
buttons do little by themselves.

Looking closer, however, you get an eye on the two keys that reveal that
we have a smartphone to do: the two thin, oblong keys on either side of
the five-way navigation key. These functions are, respectively,
shortcut to the main menu and to erase when you write.

Numeric keys of C5 are briefly summarized very large. Here it is really
well done to miss when you write, whether you are a beginner at 70 years
old or well used SMS phantom at 14. Not just big keys, they’re also
quite amazing to write with. Not noisy with the significant amount
either.

Difficult erase key

In contrast to the large number keys, it refers to "smart" tiny keys.
They are so small that it is too easy to hit the red button when you
want to erase anything, for example, in SMS. The erase key is tiny but a
bit lifted which makes it a little to distinguish them from each other.
Hit the red button instead and the screen disappears from where you are
in and suddenly you’re back in the standby mode.

With the exception of a metal bar along the entire phone, Nokia C5 is
made up of thin plastic. It does not give us fortunately as cheap
feeling as you might fear. The phone seems to be well screwed together
and it does not squeak. It has a small slip between the metal line and
the back of the phone. But it is unknown if this applies only to our
sample phone. The problem with such a slip is that dust and dirt can
quickly get into the phone’s interior.

Nokia C5 has only two shortcut keys, namely to control the volume up and
down during conversations. Here you usually find the shortcut key to
camera phones with the classic look which is also the entrance to the
memory card in C5.

Fine Screen

Screen in C5 is 2.2 inches high and both bright and clear. This is not a
problem to both view pictures and video clips on.

The menus are as mentioned earlier the Symbian S60 version three. This
means that the phone can run multiple applications simultaneously. For
example, you can let an instant message client run in the background
while writing an SMS or playing games.

Sleep mode consists of a toolbar with shortcuts of your choice. There is
room for five shortcuts. Along with the physical shortcut keys, it
offers you enough options that you practically have done the most you
need without going into the menus. However, you’ll have a very basic
sleep mode; you can remove the toolbar via the appearance settings.

Quick response

Nokia C5 is a really quick and reacts spontaneously at every keystroke.
Do you love to write SMS; it will probably not let you down the phone.

Considering that the Nokia C5 costs $195, we cannot in any way let
us disappoint when it comes to technology and opportunities.

The phone has super-3G as fastest surf technology and supports all four
GSM frequencies. Do you want to transfer files locally, you can choose
between Bluetooth and USB.

Nokia C5 has an internal memory of 50 MB, which corresponds to about ten
music files of good quality. This is not the world. This has
fortunately Nokia thought of and included a 2GB card in the box.

Would you like to send and receive e-mails with Nokia C5; this is
possible in many cases very easily. When you set up an email account,
the phone is even able to retrieve all necessary data if you use either
Yahoo mail, Gmail or Hotmail. We just have to fill in your username and
password and we’ll let the phone to do the rest for us. Do you want to
e-mail via an Exchange solution or use a different email provider than,
the three mentioned, you must fill in all the information yourself.

Half Piece browser

Browser in Nokia C5 works fine, but it can still make browsing the
regular web pages to a complex experience. You have in fact few
opportunities to gain an adequate overview of the page you are visiting.

The only alternative is called ‘page overview’ which gives you a
thumbnail of the page you are on. Unfortunately, this feature is so
effective that most are too small for you to see. You know, however,
exactly where on a website you will be, page overview is useful for
navigation.

Are you an avid surfer; we suggest you take a closer look at the Opera
web browser for S60 phones, Opera Mobile.

Average in conversation

We are happy with the battery life of the Nokia C5. For small to
moderate use, mobile charge approximately lasts for two days. Turn off
the 3G feature; you can add at least one extra day until the battery
runs out.

We have nothing to say on the sound of C5 on call. It is clear in both
directions.

There are mainly two things that are important if you want to use your
phone as a music player: the sound and storage.

The internal storage capacity of C5 is as listed at 50 MB. Had it ended
up with these 50 MB, one had C5 make the cut as a music player for most
people? Fortunately it does not end there; the phone has support for
both memory cards and a 2 GB memory card that comes with the package.

The music player is simple and straightforward, and lets you sort by
your music gradually as the default options: artist, album and genre.
The phone also features a built-in audio equalizer so that, for example,
you can assign more bass sound if you wish. You can also create your
own playlists.

Moderate Speaker

Do you play music straight from the phone’s own speakers, you will not
exactly get the best audio experience. The sound is thin and sharp, as
it often is with cheaper phones.

Better it is, strictly speaking, not when you plug-in the included
hands-free kit. The music sounds like a dusty old recording, woolly and
"distant". If you put, on the other hand, a better headset you will have
the experience a completely different. But the sound still seems a
touch of wool; you may well use C5 as a complete music player.

Nokia C5 comes with two games, Brain Challenge and Bounce out. Do you
want more; you can get it via Nokia software shop, Ovi, or elsewhere on
the web.

Good camera – on bright days

To be in their price range, Nokia C5 takes very good pictures. In good
daylight, they are sharp and fine. Color reproduction is flawless.

The camera’s weaknesses, however, is displayed until a time when the sun
does not shine or light in other ways are not optimal. In this case,
the images are somewhat faded.

The Nokia C5 has definitely nothing to write how about when it comes to
close-ups. It has the ability to capture detail in the images better
than many of the phones for about the same price range.

Conclusion

Nokia C5 is one of the cheapest smartphones you can buy today and costs
$195 without subscription. The phone has a rather anonymous looks and
may, at first glance, be taken to be a much simpler phone. Two small
buttons between the menu keys, however, reveals the phone’s true
identity. These keys can be found namely in the smartphones from Nokia.

Unfortunately, these keys are one of respondent points against Nokia C5.
Buttons, which leads respectively to the main menu and a back notch
when you write, is so small that it is all too easy to hit the keys
around in the process.

However there is nothing negative to say about the numeric keys on Nokia
C5. These are so great that no one should have trouble meeting the
"right". They are also very good at press and we can really recommend if
you are a SMS freak.

The screen is 2.2 inches high and works well for both to show film clips
and view photos. The menus are of type S60. This means that you can run
multiple applications simultaneously. For example you can chat with
people via an instant messenger while you surf the web.

Speaking about surfing, we can mention that the phone has support for
Super 3G and all the technologies at this level. It gives you broadband
speeds in all key areas of the country and usable speed most other
places on the rock. There is no Wi-Fi connection for wireless zones.

The phone itself is also quick in the turns and reacts spontaneously on
the keypad. This is also another good feature if you love to write many
SMS’s. However, you should not ignore the fact that the C5, which most
other smartphones have, will be somewhat slower in twists and turns, the
more you fill your phone with messages, images and other data.

Internal memory of C5 is 50 MB. In addition, it comes with a 2GB card in
the package. Along the way, we discovered the phone works well as a
music player; at least if you’re not very picky on sound. You can plug
in your headset to your phone and get enough respectable sound. The
memory card and support for normal headsets together shows that the C5
can replace good music player.

Do you listen to the radio; you can find it too in Nokia C5. Nokia C5
shares a built-in FM radio.

Want to hear what friends, relatives and other people say; there is no
problem with the C5 in this matter. The sound quality of call is in fact
nothing to say on. When it comes to battery life, you should expect to
charge the phone about every third or fourth day.

The phone’s 3.2 megapixel camera takes surprisingly good pictures. In
daylight, both sharpness and color reproduction appeals phone price
taken into consideration. But if darkness fell, the camera will continue
to try to compensate for the darkness by making the lighter. The result
is that they quickly become rather faded.

So finally, it is simply and very little negative points to say about
Nokia C5. For under $200 you get a smartphone that is brilliant on SMS,
quick at the response, good to talk to and all right to listen to music.
The pictures you take in ok light are actually not bad and better than
more expensive phones performing.

Pros

  • Super-3G
  • Support for standard headsets
  • 2 GB memory card with the package
  • Large number keys
  • Approved Audio
  • 3.5 millimeter audio output
  • Easy e-mail
  • Quick Menus

Cons

  • No Wi-Fi
  • Poor speaker
  • Somewhat difficult Browser
  • Unnecessary small "smart" keys

  1. The phone is EXCELLENT! Although the delete C key is too tiny as mentioned in the review…could lead to accidental deletion of stuff. Performance is great. After a terrible let down by a Nokia 6700s this comes like a breath of fresh air. GREAT BUY! Don’t think twice just pick it and you wont repent.
