If research in nuclear physics is a subject you're passionate about,
then you need a powerful PC for your simulations. And if mobility is a
necessity for you, then you need a laptop. For these professionals, Dell
has released its Precision M6500, a monster of power in a 17 inches
laptop and less than four kilograms.
Fully coated metal, the M6500 mocks the tenor of the segment, Lenovo,
one of the few manufacturers to offer such beasts. Judge for yourself:
Intel Core i7 Mobile QX920, a professional Nvidia Quadro FX3800 M
graphics card with two hard drives of 250 GB with the possibility of
RAID. Whereof to collect the most demanding applications, video editing
HD multitrack through the professional 3D modeling applications, thanks
to the certification of graphics card drivers. Not a machine for fun
although its more than 12000 points in 3D Mark 2006 allows engineers to
gamers more about to leave the base side of the force - the video game.
High heat dissipation
Surprisingly, with such components, the Precision M6500 might heat. We
measured 35°C on the right palm in idle and not less than 55°C on full
load, which takes not less than 210 W load. Temperatures suggest that
the heat dissipation could be improved. The camera becomes unusable many
a times and so just do not put it on your knees with 3D. However it is
anyway absurd to take almost 4 kg on knees when you have a perfect
device in your office.
Excellent screen
If the format 16/9 is adapted to the general public, which consumes a
lot of videos on its machines, the 16/10 offers more space to work
professionals. That is why the panel of this laptop is 1920 x 1200
pixels and not 1920 x 1080 as the majority of Full HD panels. A slab, in
its high-end version, is simply to fall: providing a coating halfway
between matte and gloss, it delivers pleasant colors, deep blacks, while
not prone to problems with reflections. As for the accuracy of color
the ultimate option allows to cover the gamut Adobe RGB. A must for
photographers and imaging professionals.
For workers
Aimed at the professional world, M6500 is the perfect choice: exit the
memory card reader to empty his vacation photos or HDMI port to watch
the videos on the TV, here is the world of the 6-pin FireWire jack,
output Display Port and eSATA. This time, Dell was a bit stingy: a SD
card reader had been genuine, especially since the DS is now a standard
also used by professional tools - audio recorders, cameras, etc. It may
however be back on a Express Car drive since a 34 mm port of this type
available.
