Fontseeker is a program for viewing installed fonts (TrueType, Type 1). You can also search fonts by name, or apply filter to see only script fonts for example. Also you can edit sample string and drag desired font sample into your favorite illustration program. FontSeeker will also allow you to edit sample string and drag desired font sample into the illustration program you use.
