Most of you might have used printer, of course, in your life. You might
have came across some situations where you want to print a Web page but
really end up with miles of leaves. All you find is that it is not the
way you have seen on the browser. Also while printing a book with its
pages, you might have noticed that it is neither in the right order nor
in the right direction.
Here are some guidelines which will help you to learn how to get what
you want from the printer with the help of the printer driver and also
saving the ink and paper at the same time!
What to print
A condition of using customized paper, inkjet printers, even
entry-level, are able to print photos. However, there are more
specialized printers, called "Photo", precisely. Their specialty is
that they work with 5, 6 or 7 cartridges whereas other printers have 4
multi-color cartridges, in order to make the details and nuances of
color. As for laser printers, they are not recommended for such use.
- T-shirts and more …
There is nothing to spend into your printer, but print the design you
want on a sheet of "transfer paper", a special paper for use only with
inkjet printers. You can then place this printed paper on the T-shirt,
and "transfer" design with an iron. The only key point that you should
remember is that for printing, you must print the pattern in the
- Labels and business cards
This are the most complicated things than others in printing. These
include labels. Because of their small size, it is more convenient to
print several on a single sheet rather than pull them out one by one.
But the test of setting the printer can be daunting. The practical
solution would be to buy the appropriate paper and cut it. It is
usually sold with software intended to simplify the layout and
Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF documents, emails and web pages are
frequently printed documents. Any inkjet printer makes its case. But if
one does and that documents in large quantities, a laser printer is a
This is the trend over the current photo printers. Once we go beyond
the entry-level models, almost all photo inkjet printers offers
printing CDs. A good way to customize discs archives and music
compilations. Warning: this particular disc, coated with a layer
printable is sold barely more expensive than standard blank discs.
A printer called "multipurpose" combines the services. With the scanner
built into his back, it turns into a real photocopier. We place the

Whatever the job, it is clear at least the type of paper, the
dimensions of the leaf, and the desired quality rendering. Adjustments
take place through the printer driver. Real control tower of the

The printer driver is a program that is copied to the computer during
installation of the device. They are generic for all brands of
printers, but it is always advisable to use the manufacturer of the
device, provided on the installation CD (if available, downloadable
from the site of the manufacturer).
Step 1: Choose the default settings of the printer
- From the Windows desktop, open the Start menu, then click Control
Panel. In the new window, double-click Printers and Faxes (Printers in
Vista). The list of printers installed on the computer. Right-click on
the printer in question and then select Print from the context menu.
A window is displayed by the printer driver. It includes all the
settings for the printer. A driver differs between brands and models:
they are not identical, their settings, however, are similar.
- It’s time to specify the default settings of the printer, ie mainly
the quality of printing, paper type, and format. The "Draft" quality or
"Fast" is the one that uses less ink. It is recommended for printing
documents which will not be long, or for testing before the final
printing. The "Text" qualities and "Text and picture" are Standard or
well suited to printing documents such as letters, spreadsheets, PDF
files, Web pages. As for "Picture" quality (or high), it speaks for
itself: the printer will deal with colors. This option is the most
greedy in ink.
In addition, if one does not print photos, it’s best interest to check
the Print in grayscale to save color cartridge. This avoids exhausting
to print Web pages colored.
- The type of paper for printing documents, the most common, plain
paper. However, for photos, it is better to specify as clearly as
possible the quality of paper, eg glossy photo paper. If you have any
doubts, look at the words on the cover of the paper.
As for the default format of the paper, it is almost always the classic A4 (210 x 297 mm).
- For printing photos, it will most likely format 10 x 15 cm.
- Click the "OK" button to accept the default settings.
Step 2: Check the settings cut by cut

- In the software (word processing or editing pictures for example)
from which the printing is started, pull down the File menu and click
Print. You can also use the universal keyboard shortcut Ctrl + P.
In any case, do not click the print button available in the toolbar of
the software: it runs directly with the default settings.
- A dialog box appears. If multiple printers are installed on the
computer, it is possible to choose one to use from the dropdown menu.
Then click the Properties button (or Preferences or Options for
printing, according to the software): the window of the printer driver
appears, identical to that of stage 1.
- Change depending on what you want to print, print quality, the type
of medium used, possibly uncheck the Print in grayscale. These changes
will not affect the next printing. If you print multiple photos in
sequence, for example, whenever it will make adjustments.
- When you are finished, press OK, then a second time to start printing.
Step 3: Set the print quality problems
Photos palettes, documents with crossed lines of scratch. Don’t panic! The drivers will help you bring order.
- To do this, go to the window of the printer driver as described in step 1.
- Open the Maintenance tab or Utility. It consists of software
programs to solve the most common worries. Headings of utilities and
associated explanations are quite revealing.

run "check the buses", then follow the recommendations of the wizard.
The printer has a sheet with lots of color oblique lines. If pieces are
not printed, it should start cleaning heads.
- The head cleaning option is recommended if the print quality diminishes.
- Sometimes the characters in the texts are less clear and present
unsightly stalls. In this case, the alignment of print heads is at
stake. Click the button. The printer pulls a sheet of reasons this time
to specify for each series which presents the fewest stripes. The
printer then repositions the head accordingly.
- An indicator also lets you know the level of ink in the cartridges.
On some printers, it is also where you find the button to open the
wizard the opportunity to change the ink cartridges.
- Click OK to close the print window

You are now aware of the setting of the printer, but this may not be
the case of people with whom you share a computer and/or printer. Why
not simplify their lives and at the same time, simplify yours also?
The solution: install multiple times the same printer, with specific
settings for each. One will be designed, for example, documents in
black and white, the other for photos 10 x 15 in color, etc..
Only restriction: this manipulation does not always work with multifunction models.

Print web pages correctly
An Internet browser is a software like any other. The same guidelines
applies to it too. Note that even for a web page, it is possible not to
print an extract, after selection with the mouse. The Firefox browser
can be used to select multiple extracts at the same time: just hold
down the Ctrl key on the keyboard after the first selection.
Then, with Firefox as with Internet Explorer, there is a "Print
Preview" available on the "File" menu. More appropriate in this case
that the traditional layout, it brings together the most useful
settings. Thus, if the board is cut text, adjust the appearance of
pages by printing to a percentage less than 100.
