Teradata Selects Symantec for Advanced Data Protection Solutions

Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world’s largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, today announced that Symantec NetBackup will be the primary backup, archive and recovery (BAR) software technology to support the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family.

"Teradata selected Symantec to provide industry-leading technology with enhanced performance and new capabilities, which will help our customers secure and manage their data more effectively than ever before," said Scott Gnau, chief development officer, Teradata Corporation. "Symantec has the most advanced data protection solutions as a result of its solid commitment to research and development, which has already begun to pay dividends to our customers."

Providing a strong data protection solution is important because the role of the data warehouse has significantly shifted. It has evolved from a back-office, non-critical system queried by a few users to a system that supports thousands of frontline workers in their daily tasks. For many customers, the data warehouse has become a mission critical system supporting high value applications. The data warehouse contains critical information for stocking shelves, booking flights, tracking customer habits, billing for services, quarterly financial reporting, and numerous other uses.

According to Gnau, "Effective BAR solutions are a critical component of the fully integrated and scalable Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family."

Teradata is the only vendor to offer a broad family of platforms that span the unique business and analytical data warehouse needs of companies, making Teradata suitable to be everywhere in the enterprise. The family is supported by the high performance and dependable Teradata Database 13, the most significant and technically advanced version yet released.
