Motorola Enterprise Handheld Mobile Computers Receive FIPS 140-2 Certification

The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit of Motorola Inc., today announced that its wireless LAN (WLAN) stack and
802.11a/b/g WLAN adapter have been successfully certified by Aspect Labs to meet
Federal government FIPS 140-2 Level 1 requirements. Used across Motorola’s
award-winning family of mobile computing devices, bar code scanners and RFID
readers targeted at enterprise and government markets, these innovative
technologies enable reliable and secure Wi-Fi connectivity that helps put
information into the hands of users, when and where they need it.

"We are happy to work with Motorola on FIPS 140-2 validation of Motorola’s
WLAN stack and adapter for its enterprise-class devices," said Stan Kladko,
founder and director, Aspect Labs. "During the FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria
certification process the products undergo advanced and comprehensive security
analysis, vulnerability and penetration testing. The product internals and its
source code are scrutinized by security experts to assure strong security
defenses and compliance with advanced cryptographic standards. Achieving FIPS
140-2 certifications is an important security milestone that adds significant
value to an enterprise solution."

The FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certification enables Federal Department of Defense
(DoD) and civilian agencies to deploy mobile computing solutions with the
security features required to ensure secure data transmissions of their highly
sensitive applications over the network. When combined with Motorola’s FIPS
certified wireless LAN and wireless broadband networking technologies, Motorola
offers customers end-to-end FIPS certified solutions inside and outside the four
walls. By leveraging Motorola’s field-proven portfolio, these customers can
realize significant benefits from improved operations and increased productivity
at the point-of-activity.

"Our heritage of providing enterprise mobility solutions to the private
sector has been recognized throughout the world," said Jim Mears, Motorola vice
president. "As we help our Federal customers improve efficiencies, access to
information we want to provide them with the same mobility solutions deployed in
enterprises worldwide as they look to us to provide end-to-end solutions that
can help them transform efficiencies within their agencies.

Motorola has the breadth and depth of networking and device portfolio
certified to meet the requirements to leverage mobility in a secure and reliable
way.
