MWC 2014: Sony launches Xperia Z2 waterproof smartphone with Snapdragon 801 and Android KitKat version

Alongside the Xperia Tablet Z2 and Xperia M2 smartphone on the MWC booth of Sony, you can also see the Xperia Z2 smartphone.

New flagship of the Japanese brand and successor of Xperia Z1, which was launched in late 2013, Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone is positioned logically on the high end side. And it comes also in high price: 699 euros.

With this smartphone, we find the waterproof design (Dumping) feature indicated by the IP58 certification (for 30 minutes at 1 meter depth).

It also benefits from the powerful platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with its quad-core Krait processor at 2.3GHz, 3GB RAM and Adreno 330 graphics solution, along with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.

It also has a 5.2-inch display of Full HD IPS panel treated against scratches, a 4G/LTE support Category 4 (up to 50 Mbit/s upload and up to 150 Mbit/s download), Wi-Fi AC/Bluetooth 4.0/GPS/NFC connections, a 20.7 megapixel digital camera and 2.2 megapixel webcam.

Memory side, we are offered a unique capacity of 16 GB. A microSDXC slot allow expansion to 64 GB.

At last, note the presence of a Lithium-Ion 3200 mAh non-removable battery with which one can expect up to 19 hours of talktime on 3G, up to 15 hours on 2G, up to 120 hours of audio playback, up to 740 hours on 3G standby and up to 690 hours on 2G standby.

Availability is announced in March.
