Who can stop Mediatek? The Chinese foundry recently held a conference in Shenzhen and unveiled two new chips, including one targeting the high-end sector of displaying high-flying performance.
So far dedicated to entry-level devices in the market, the company Mediatek now wants to invest in smartphones and tablets of major manufacturers, especially their most prestigious models.
To open new markets, the manufacturer has unveiled the Mediatek MT6595 by describing its new best performing smart chip in the market. According to internal testing, the chip got a record score of 47,000 on AnTuTu, where the best chips of Qualcomm and Samsung are limited to 40,000.
The MT6595 SoC is the first to exploit the ARM Cortex-17, the new 32-bit architecture that integrates high-end quad-core A17 at 2.2GHz and quad-core A7 at 1.7 GHz. The two sets of core turn on and off depending on the severity of the information to be processed to combine efficiency and energy savings, or even work with 8 simultaneous cores for the most demanding applications.
The rest of the technical details of the chip is relatively interesting. There is a PowerVR Series 6 GPU clocked at 600 MHz that can display on screens of 2560 x 1600 pixels at 60 Hz or 120 Hz in lower definitions. There is a memory controller LPDDR3 dual channel 933 MHz and dual ISP can support a 20 MP sensor.
The other chip is presented by Mediatek is MT6795 SoC, still under development. The SoC will be the "first true 64-bit octa-core" in market. All we know is that the chip will be based on 64-bit ARMv8 without further details at this time.
