Microsoft IIS Database Manager 1.0 gets a new support add on

DiscountASP.NET announces launching support for Microsoft IIS Database Manager 1.0 for their Windows Server 2008 hosting platform, allowing customers to manage local and remote databases from within IIS Manager. DiscountASP.NET further announces enhancing the user experience through integrating a SQL Server backup and SQL Server restore solution within the DB Manager interface.

The IIS Database Manager is an out-of-band IIS UI module released by Microsoft to allow users to manage their local and remote databases from within IIS Manager. Once connected, IIS DB Manager provides an array of functionalities including managing tables, views, stored procedures and data as well as running ad hoc queries. IIS Database Manager provides support for both SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2005 databases.

To improve the user experience, DiscountASP.NET integrated the DB Manager UI with SQL Server backup and SQL Server restore functionality. With this enhancement, customers can use DBManager within IIS Manager to back up their SQL Server databases and save their backups within the App_Data folder. Customers can also use DB Manager to select from a list of previously saved backups and restore a specific SQL backup.

"Delivering on our goal to provide customers with maximum control over their shared hosting environment, we now support a powerful tool to help our customers manage their SQL Server databases, including a new way to backup and restore databases." said Takeshi Eto, VP Marketing at DiscountASP.NET. "We are proud of this announcement and this serves as an example of the kinds of innovations and value we are striving for in our Windows hosting service."

"We enjoy working with partners like DiscountASP.NET who actively seek to build value on top of the Microsoft Web stack," said Saad Ladki, Microsoft Internet Information Services Program Manager. "This is a great example of a solution that leverages Windows Server, IIS and SQL Server to alleviate the common customer burden of data backup and integrity."
