Main Street Broadband and Decatur County Sign Agreement to Bring Service to Un-served Areas

Main Street Broadband announces the beginning of its deployment of high speed Internet for all of Decatur County, Georgia. In December, the County Commission selected Main Street Broadband as its exclusive partner to deploy and manage a county-wide 4G WiMax network to be funded primarily by the county’s special purpose tax fund. Main Street and Decatur County officials will celebrate with a ribbon cutting and kick off event to be held on Thursday February 25, 2010 in Bainbridge Georgia.

The collaboration between Decatur County and Main Street Broadband was developed with the goal to provide high speed Internet access to all residents in Decatur County. This will be accomplished by implementing the initiative defined by the County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (“SPLOST”) program and leveraging Main Street Broadband’s expertise to launch and manage the network and provide service to the county’s residents.

“The County leadership is passionate about bringing broadband services for all of its residents,” states Dr. Earl Perry, Chairman of Decatur County Board of Commissioners. “Main Street Broadband is the right partner to deploy and manage the technical and operational aspects of the service for Decatur County,” concludes Dr. Perry.

“This collaborative effort is a great initiative driven by the County. The County Commission and the residents had the strategic forethought to approve this special purpose tax to address the urgent need for broadband in un-served areas of the County. As we encounter more communities with limited or no access to high speed Internet, it is refreshing to see county administration address broadband access proactively,” comments Mike Mies, Co-Founder and CEO. “Main Street Broadband was established to improve the quality of life for residents and continues to focus on the goal of providing affordable Internet services to the underserved regions of the Southeast, and our work with the County allows us to meet and exceed our goals,” continued Mr. Mies.

Main Street Broadband has begun offering service off its initial sites and will continue to expand over the next few months. On Thursday February 25th the ribbon cutting ceremony will be held from 4pm to 6pm at the Firehouse Center and Gallery in Bainbridge, where from noon until 3pm the public can stop by to get more information and sample the service.
