InstallAware Software Corporation has shipped free updates for InstallAware, allowing ISVs and enterprises to deploy the latest technologies included in Microsoft’s new Visual Studio 2010 programming environment. InstallAware began publishing the free updates only hours after Microsoft’s own release to manufacturing.
“InstallAware has cemented its industry leadership by providing same-day support for Microsoft’s new releases,” says Sinan Karaca, Founder of InstallAware Software Corporation. “With previous updates, we would lead InstallShield by weeks, sometimes months – but now they have actually beaten us to the chase by a few hours.”
InstallAware goes over and above the call of duty with its new runtime installers, which are available free of charge at www.installaware.com/dotnet4.asp. While the InstallShield runtimes just call Microsoft’s own setup files for .NET 4, the InstallAware runtimes extend them to improve rates of successful deployment. For instance, the InstallShield runtimes are unable to install .NET 4 on Windows Server 2003 because the same limitation exists in Microsoft’s own setup files, due to a missing component. However, InstallAware’s runtimes correctly detect the target platform and automatically bring in all missing components, including the WIC component which is required on Server 2003. This component is missing in the native Microsoft .NET 4 installation package, and therefore also in the InstallShield runtime.
“Coincidentally, in the same week that Microsoft launched .NET Framework 4, Symantec announced their discontinuance (www.installaware.com/wise-discontinued.asp) of the Wise Installation System,” says Agustin Berge, VP of Development at InstallAware Software Corporation. “InstallAware contains built-in converters for WiseScript files. The investment Wise customers have made in their WiseScript libraries will be preserved when they upgrade them to InstallAware projects using our one-click, fully automated conversion tools. They will be able to continue authoring their setups in our ultra-modern IDE, while employing scripting and development metaphors similar to what they have been using before.”
InstallAware also launched automated conversion tools for InstallShield customers earlier in the month, providing a seamless upgrade path from the first and second most popular installation tools on the Microsoft Windows platform to InstallAware. With Wise Installation System products discontinued, InstallAware is now the second largest software installation toolkit vendor, second only to InstallShield.
InstallAware is available in multiple editions with prices starting at US$999. A time limited fully-functional trial download is available at www.installaware.com. Significant competitive upgrade discounts are available for both InstallShield and Wise customers at www.installaware.com/buydirect.asp – accessible immediately when an old InstallShield or Wise serial is provided on the page.
