The next major version of GNU / Linux distribution backed by Novell
is scheduled for July 15. Meanwhile, a release candidate version of
openSUSE 11.3 has just been published.
Linux users who wish to test before the time the next distribution openSUSE
11.3 have the opportunity to turn to a RC1 just posted. A
second RC version will his estate on July 1 and the stable version will
be available to end users in mid-July.
The RC1 of openSUSE 11.3
has a base for kernel 2.6.34 (2.6.34-9). For NVIDIA cards, free new driver is default. This driver supports kernel
mode-setting (the management modes of graphic display is assigned to the
Linux kernel) which is also enabled by default for ATI, Intel. Note
also that the boot manager GRUB 2 is included but not used by default.
Among
the proposed office environments, we find KDE SC 4.4.3, GNOME 2.30.1,
4.6.1 Xfce. LXDE which is aimed at computers with modest configuration
is included in the DVD. For a few essential applications, Firefox is
version 3.6.4. This is a beta version (build 7). The office suite
OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 is proposed.
