Nuance’s Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder on Apple App Store Launched

Nuance Communications, Inc. announced the availability of Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder on the iTunes App Store, expanding its healthcare suite of speech solutions for smartphones.

With Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder, Nuance said it is introducing clinical documentation flexibility by enabling mobile point-of-care dictation that is connected to speech-enabled transcription platforms, eScription and Dictaphone Enterprise Speech System, and the fully-outsourced Nuance Transcription Services offering.

By applying its speech recognition and dictation capabilities to Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder, Nuance helps clinicians with a documentation method that they prefer, dictation, on a single device that many clinicians demand, the iPhone. According to Manhattan Research, 72 percent of U.S. physicians now use smartphones and by 2012 adoption will increase to 81 percent. With Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder, clinicians across an enterprise can dictate into the iPhone at the point-of-care or on-the-go without compromising the quality, accuracy or turnaround time of their reports.

“As the demand for mobile, point-of-care solutions grows, so does Nuance’s commitment to deliver innovative healthcare applications for smartphones and other leading mobile devices that advance and improve the mobile clinical experience,” said Janet Dillione, executive vice president and general manager, Nuance Healthcare. “We believe the interaction of speech technology and healthcare mobility is crucial. Nuance’s Dragon Medical Mobile solutions speed and simplify the use of mobile devices and applications in healthcare settings, as well as improve the overall clinical experience for both the care provider and patient.” “Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder has been our hospital’s first introduction to dictation via a smartphone. Members of our hospitalist group and pulmonary physician assistants have been using the App as part of their clinical documentation workflow; feedback has been positive,” said Jean Blain, CMT, HIM Manager, Transcription Services at Eastern Connecticut Health Network. “Clinicians with iPhones can easily download the app without IT department support. Also, the quality of dictation capture and speech recognition accuracy on the eScription platform has been great, showing no difference from telephone dictations. We expect additional adoption across the hospital, mostly driven through word-of-mouth.” Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder includes many features designed to enhance the dictation process for clinicians and ensure accurate clinical documentation. The Company noted the App: -Leverages the WiFi and 3G wireless capabilities of the iPhone.

-Protects all patient information with a full range of security features including encryption as outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.

-Allows clinicians to download and install the software via the iPhone App Store, minimizing the IT resources required to deploy this tool across the enterprise.

-Provides administrators the ability to centrally manage user accounts through EMon, the eScription administrative console or Enterprise Explorer, the Dictaphone Enterprise Speech System administrative console.

The Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder App for eScription is available immediately in the U.S. from the Apple iTunes App Store.
